Anusara Yoga is based on universal principle of alignment during all the physical asanas. It is a very fast going and popular style of yoga. It is a Hatha Yoga of modern era. To attain this posture you should lie on your back, bend your knees such that Your feet are flat on the mat maintaining the knees at hip width distance. Lift your hips towards the ceiling, off the ground, such that your weight balances on the sole of your feet and your shoulders keeping your arms flat on the mat. You can also position your hands clasped on the ground under your buttocks.
This posture is full backbend such that only your feet and hands are on the ground supporting your full weight. For achieving this pose you should be lying on your back on the mat bending your knees keeping the sole of your feet flat on the mat close to your hip bone. Bending your elbows you should place your hands on both sides of your head the forearm being perpendicular to the ground. Then lifting your body from the ground you should keep your feet and Palms firmly on the mat.
Standing on your feet, you should shift your full weight on your right foot, and bend your left knee. Lifting your left leg backwards hold the ankle with your left hand. Then bending forward stretch the left leg behind you. When the alignment and balance with your hips and legs are maintained, then bend a little more forward and lift your right arm in the direction of your gaze.
To get to this pose you should get down to your knees with shins being flat on the Mat keeping the knees and thighs at a distance of hip-width. Then lifting you head up you should bend backwards slowly. In order to help you bend backwards you can keep your hands on yourlower back and gradually shift your hands to the sole of your feet. Your chest should point towards the ceiling.
Plank is the posture of arm balancing which appears similar to that of the starting position of “pushups”. The arms should be straight and angled below the shoulders. The back should be kept straight and only the tip of your toes and your palms should support your weight.
In Anusara yoga the students learn to coordinate the action and movement with every posture with the breath. In every pose the postural alignment is checked as per the Universal Principles of Alignment while the teachers may use the physical adjustment and/or verbal cues to help the students in enhancing their full form of the posture.
